FIRST® CORE VALUES
The FIRST ® CORE VALUES are the cornerstones of the program.
They are among the fundamental elements that distinguish FIRST® LEGO League from other programs of its kind.
By embracing the FIRST® CORE VALUES participants learn that friendly competition and mutual gain are not separate goals, and that helping one another is the foundation of teamwork.
We express the FIRST® VALUES of GRACIOUS PROFESSIONALISM and COOPERTITION through our CORE VALUES
INCLUSION – We respect each other and embrace our differences
DISCOVER – We explore new skills and ideas
TEAMWORK – We are stronger when we work together
INNOVATION – We use creativity and persistence to solve problems
IMPACT – We apply what we learn to improve the world
FUN – We enjoy and celebrate what we do.
In FIRST®LEGO League DISCOVER and FIRST®LEGO League EXPLORE we will be teaching the basics of the CORE VALUES, for example: Teamwork and Inclusion – That we are a team and must work together, I can not work alone. Discover – Learning new skills.
From the beginning of the FIRST® LEGO League CHALLENGE Season, teams have to learn to display the CORE VALUES in everything they do. Teamwork is one of the most important skills kids will learn in FIRST® LEGO League. Teams need to learn how to include all their team members in all activities (Inclusion). Throughout the season the kids will learn a lot of new skills and gain knowledge they didn’t have before (Discover). Learning to use creativity and how to think ‘out of the box’, to get to a innovative solution, is just another skill that will be learned (Innovation). Sharing what you have learn with your community, can have a positive Impact, the way you help others, for example with your programming knowledge, can also have a great Impact on others teams. All teams should have Fun, while doing FIRST® LEGO League!!!!
The FIRST® CORE VALUES should guide everything a team does. It is very important that coaches and teams understand them. Teams must be able to explain how they embodied or apply the FIRST® CORE VALUES during practise or competition times and even in everyday live, outside of the FIRST program
