Welcome to FIRST LEGO League Explore

FIRST LEGO League Explore was created to introduce children from 6 -10 years old to STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics – while investigating a real-world theme, developing design and programming skills.  All this is done, while embracing the FIRST CORE VALUES to develop teamwork, to share experiences and to have fun.

How does it work?

A new and exciting challenge based on a real-world problem, is released every year, in August.  A team will consists of 2-6 team members. They will be  guided by two adult coaches and the FIRST CORE VALUES.

They will research the topic and begin their exploration of this real-world theme, with a Lego SUPERPOWERED Explore set. Using this set as a starting point, they will build a solution model to the challenge and program one part of the model to move, using Lego Education WeDo 2.0 set or Lego Education Spike Essential set.

By the end of this program they have to display their ideas on a Show Me Poster, that presents their discovery and their team. On their Explore “journey” the children learn to work together as a team and explore the wonders of science and technology.

This program has 12 lessons, with a Celebration Event, where Reviewers will talk to them about their work. At the Event learners will present their work, share what they have learnt, with other teachers, various invited guests, parents and family, this way they will celebrate their achievements.

Explore can be run in 2 ways:
  • Individual teams, who register to attend a regional celebration event.
  • At a school, science centre or robotics club, where the program is run for bigger class groups, using Class Packs . Their Celebration Event will then be held at their school, science centre or robotics club.
