FIRST LEGO League Explore Grants

Explore Grants will only be allocated to learners age 6-10.

There are 2 Explore Grant options: 

  1. Explore Class Pack Grant – Class Packs can be divided into groups 2 teams, 3 teams or 4 teams. Maximum of 6 learners allowed per team.
  2. A Single team Grant  will be for learners age 4-6, in 1 team

FIRST LEGO League Explore is a 12 session programme and each session should be at least an hour in duration. 

OPTION 1:  EXPLORE CLASS PACK  GRANT

Class Pack Grants can be implemented at schools or Community Centres, especially in under-served communities. After the 12 sessions, the team will be sharing their  STEM journey with parents, educators and learners at a FIRST LEGO League Explore CelebraCURRENTLY THERE ARE NO GRANTS AVAILABLE.  WHEN APPLICATIONS OPEN AGAIN, WE WILL ANNOUCE IT HERE. (on our Website)tion Event at their school or Community Centre.  A FIRST SA representative could  be invited to the Explore Celebration Event!

With a Class Pack Grant, you can choose whether you want 2 teams, 3 teams or 4 teams, of 4-6 learners each y.  Each team must be registered as a separate participating team.

Class Pack Grant includes: for 2 classes

Returnable equipment:
  • ?  x  FIRST LEGO League Explore set
  • ? x  Bluetooth enabled Tablet
  • ? x  WeDo 2.0 Core sets or Spike Essential sets
Non-returnable equipment:
  • ?  x  Engineering Notebooks
  •   2  x  Team Meeting Guides for Coaches
  • ? x  Certificates for Awards
  • ?  x  Medals for all participants.

The coaches/mentors is required to send session reports at the completion of each session. A template will be provided. These reports must be emailed to explore@firstsa.org

After the celebration event, a subsequent implementation may be negotiated. If a next implementation is not planned, the Returnable Equipment must be returned to FIRST SA, to ensure that other learners benefit from this grant as well.

OPTION 2:  SINGLE TEAM GRANT

Single team Grants can be implemented at schools or Community Centres, as a after school activity, especially in under-served communities. After the 12 sessions, the team will be sharing their  STEM journey with parents, educators and learners at a selected Regional Event. Teams must register for a Regional Event.

There can be 4-6 learners in 1 team.

Single Team Grant includes:

Returnable equipment:
  • 1 x  FIRST LEGO League Explore set
  • 1  x  WeDo 2.0 Core set or Spike Essential set
Non-returnable equipment:
  • 6  x  Engineering Notebooks 
  • 1  x  Team Meeting Guide for Coaches
  • Team Registration

At the Regional FIRST LEGO League Event the teams will receive medals and possible Awards.
