WELCOME TO FIRST LEGO LEAGUE CHALLENGE

This is where tomorrow’s innovators and engineers practice imaginative thinking, acquire STEM knowledge and learn various life skills.  Participants will grow their critical thinking skills through hands-on STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths ) applications, in this robotics program. 

Yearly Challenges are based on real world scientific topics like energy, transportation, recycling, water, etc. Teams are actually tackling the same issues as today’s scientists and engineers!

Children will develop technical skills as a result of participating in FIRST  LEGO League Challenge and they also develop important life and employment skills, like teamwork, that will benefit them no matter which career path they choose.  Studies have shown that children who participate in FIRST LEGO  League Challenge, learn critical thinking, time management, collaboration and how to communicate effectively, all while becoming more self-confident.

In addition to sparking their interest in becoming the next generation of scientists and engineers, many children become interested in career paths related to one of the Challenge themes.

The FIRST LEGO League Challenge program consists of 4 parts: 

How does it work? 

FIRST  LEGO League Challenge is for learners age 9-16 years. There can be up to 10 members in a team and they will be guided by 2 or more coaches and the FIRST  CORE VALUES.

Working as a team, students will learn to apply STEM concepts, to design, build and program a robot using LEGO Mindstorms EV3  or LEGO Education SPIKE PRIME and then on a table-top playing field, compete in an exiting, mission-based Robot Game.  For the Innovation Project teams will also have to do research to solve a real-world problem (theme related) and then have to develop an innovative solution to their identified problem.

It all adds up to loads of fun, while they learn to develop STEM skills and use a big dose of creativity, to solve problems.  Along their journey they  will develop critical thinking skills, team-building skills, communication skills, basic STEM application skills and even presentation skills, as they must present their solution (with a dash of creativity), to judges at a FIRST  LEGO League Tournament/Event.

They also learn to apply the FIRST  CORE VALUES , which emphasise inclusion and teamwork to help develop good sportsmanship, while teaching them to make a positive contribution in their community.
